Back on the rosé beat, you can’t pass an outdoor event (or watch your favorite reality show) without seeing that famous bottle of Whispering Angel Rosé.

Truth be told, it’s probably the rosé that I drink the most, so I wanted to share with y’all all my favorite (and least favorite) things about Whispering Angel, although I may shout it.

Whispering Angel Rosé Overview

Whispering Angel Rosé has become one of the most popular rosé wines in the world, known for its delicate flavor, light pink color, and elegant bottle. This wine has gained a cult following on TikTok with 6 million video views reviewing the wine and has become a symbol of summer, luxury, and sophistication.

Whispering Angel Rosé is produced in the Provence region of France, which is known for its warm climate, Mediterranean breezes, and limestone soils. The grapes used to make it are mainly Grenache, Cinsault, and Rolle. Their vineyards are located in the Var department, which is the heart of the Provence wine region.

The winery that produces Whispering Angel Rosé is Château d’Esclans, which was founded by Sacha Lichine in 2006. Sacha Lichine is a wine industry veteran and the son of Alexis Lichine, who was a renowned wine writer and merchant. Sacha Lichine had a vision to create a premium rosé wine that would rival the best white wines of the world. He hired Patrick Léon, a world-class winemaker, to help him achieve this goal and make a rosé that’s still talked about to this day, especially come the official summer rosé sipping season.

What Whispering Angel Rose Tastes Like (Tasting Notes)

Their rosé has a delicate aroma of strawberries, peaches, and citrus fruits. On the palate, it is light-bodied, crisp, and refreshing, with flavors of red berries, melon, and a hint of spice. It has a clean, dry finish that makes it perfect for pairing with a wide range of foods, from seafood to grilled meats to salads – you name it.

ON THE NOSE

  • Delicate and complex aroma on the nose, with notes of fresh strawberries, raspberries, peaches, and citrus fruits, such as grapefruit and lemon.
  • There are also floral notes, with hints of rose petals and a touch of minerality.

ON THE PALATE

  • Light and refreshing, with flavors of red berries, melon, and a subtle hint of spice.
  • The wine is dry, with a good acidity that balances the fruit flavors and gives it a crisp and clean finish.

Overall, the nose and palate of Whispering Angel are well-balanced, with a perfect combination of fruit, floral, and mineral notes.

Pros & Cons

These pros and cons are a bit subjective based on my personal experience.  Since we all can pick up different notes and have different preferences you may not 100% agree with me, but these are the high-points that made my list that I think are important to note.

WHAT I LOVED:

  • Delicate and complex aroma with notes of fresh strawberries, raspberries, and peaches.
  • Light and refreshing palate with flavors of red berries, melon, and a subtle hint of spice.
  • Well-balanced and elegant character with a delicate and refined taste.
  • Smooth and silky texture with a good acidity and clean finish.

JUST A HEADS-UP

  • The price is a bit on the higher end, especially compared to other rosé wines that are a bit cheaper.
  • There still is so much hype surrounding Whispering Angel that it’s slightly overshadowed some other high-quality rosé wines from Provence that you really should still sample.

Is Whispering Angel Rosé Dry or Sweet?

I find this rosé to definitely be more dry than sweet.  It’s definitely on the crisp side and while there is some minor sweetness to it thanks to the fruit notes (strawberries, raspberries, peaches, etc) if you’re looking for a super sweet rosé this one probably isn’t for you.

Conclusion

Personally I’m a fan of Whispering Angel and while a lot of my friends and fellow wine drinkers feel like Whispering Angel might be “over” I think it’s a solid pick, perfectly priced for the quality, and a great option for when you’re having friends and family over for a little outdoor sipping.
